A Diverse Group of Authors Make it a Perfect Fall Day Oct. 2, 2005. Haley Booksellers Hosts Writers at 27th Annual Celebration
For years we have darted across traffic at the crosswalk on Brattle Street in front of what-used-to-be Wordsworth Books. Yesterday, we unfolded a banquet table in that very crosswalk and set up shop for 8 hours at the 27th annual Harvard Square Oktoberfest. Throughout the day we we hosted various writers, like Dylan's Vision's of Sin author and British literary scholar Christopher Ricks. Ricks, in addition to being a Bob Dylan fan of the highest-order, is also the author of Beckett's Dying Words and Keats and Embarrassment. Next up was Gary Braver, whose latest book, Flashback, follows a man who suffers some strange side effects after an encounter with a jellyfish. Braver was hailed as the "thriller writer for the new millenium" by Robert B. Parker
Look for Atkinson's novel City in Amber sometime in 2007. Parts of her latest book, Celebrities In Disgrace, are currently being adapted for the opera (the parts about Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding). Elizabeth Searle is also the author A Four-Sided Bed and My Body to You, a collection of stories. Sage Stossel, whose work appears in the Atlantic Monthly and the Boston Globe, among other publications, signed copies of her children's book We're Off to Harvard Square. David Kales, author of The Phantom Pirate capped off the day. We'd like to thank the Harvard Square Business Association, and everyone who stopped by our tables and bought or flipped through a book. And thanks to the authors, and for your great works that we are proud to promote. |
