All proceeds from the night went to the Gabe Kapler Foundation, which works to end domestic violence. Through their foundation, Gabe and his wife Lisa support numerous shelters that assist women and children in need.

Kapler's New Team: The Greenville Drive

With a guaranteed seat at the World Poker Tour at the Borgata Casino in Atlantic City on the line, hundreds of poker players joined Red Sox slugger Gabe Kapler for a night of cards.

Click photos for a closer look.

Among the throngs of hopefuls were some of Kapler's Red Sox teammates, including Kevin Youkilis and Manny Delcarmen. Red Sox manager Terry Francona was on hand, as was former Sox slugger and current commentator Sam Horn. Whoever managed to "knock out" one of these celebrity gamblers received a baseball bat.

Along with the seat at the World Poker Tour at the Borgata, there were a lot of other valuable items up for grabs: the runner up will attend Howard Lederer's Fantasy Poker Camp, and 3rd place received an autographed David Ortiz Jersey from Opening Day 2005. Other prizes included 9 baseballs signed by various members of the 2004 World Series Championship team.

The Mad Fisherman, Charlie Moore hosted an auction that was anything but silent. He managed to raise thousands for the Gabe Kapler Foundation by driving the bidding price higher and higher for Monster seats and other Red Sox merchandise.

At the tables, Kapler was the last celebrity player standing.

Eventually, Kapler was taken out, and after a short water break, the final table of ten players was assembled. Back and forth they went until just before midnight, when David Zaff of Brockton finally prevailed.

When the Kapler Foundation called the Borgata the next day to purchase a $10,000 seat for the tournament to give to Zaff, the casino donated it to Kapler, along with airfare and hotel accommodations. Nice job Borgata!

Haley Booksellers was there with an array of Red Sox and poker related books. We'd like to thank Lisa and Gabe Kapler for allowing us to be a part of this event, and thanks to all the authors (Steve Buckley, Bill Nowlin and Dan Shaughnessy, to name a few) that generously signed and donated books.
